Who we are

So This Is Publishing is an independent UK publishing-information website. The data controller for this site is So This Is Publishing. If you have a question about your information or want to exercise a privacy right, email contact@sothisispublishing.com.

Information we collect

• Comments: your name, email address, comment, IP address and browser information used for moderation and spam prevention. If you choose to save your details, a convenience cookie may remember them for a later comment.
• Messages: the information you submit through the contact form or send by email, including your name, email address and the contents of your enquiry.
• Mailing-list subscriptions: your email address, any name you provide, your subscription status and the record of when and how you subscribed. This is managed through MailPoet within WordPress, and email is delivered through Migadu.
• Technical and security information: limited server, device and request information used to operate, protect and troubleshoot the site.
• Audience measurement: if analytics is enabled, it will only run after the required consent. The cookie banner lets you accept or reject non-essential measurement cookies.

How and why we use it

• To publish and moderate comments, answer enquiries, prevent abuse and keep the site secure. We rely on our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the publication.
• To respond when you ask about publishing help or a possible service. Depending on the enquiry, this may be necessary to take steps at your request before entering a contract.
• To send new articles and publishing updates when you actively subscribe. We rely on your consent, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
• To understand how the site is used and improve it, but only where the applicable consent requirements have been met.
• To meet legal, regulatory, accounting or dispute-resolution obligations where necessary.

Email updates

We do not add people to the mailing list merely because they contact us or leave a comment. Subscription is optional and requires a separate choice. Every marketing or article-update email will include an unsubscribe route. We keep a minimal suppression record where necessary so that we can respect an opt-out.

Cookies and similar technologies

The site uses essential technologies needed for security, administration and core functions. If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name and email address in a convenience cookie so you do not have to enter them again. Non-essential analytics or embedded-service cookies are not intended to run until you have made the relevant choice through the cookie banner. You can change that choice using the cookie settings link on the site.

Who receives information

We use service providers only where needed to operate the site. These presently include IONOS for website hosting, Migadu for email delivery, MailPoet for subscriber management within WordPress, and anti-spam and security tools used to protect comments and forms. Google services may process limited information if audience measurement is enabled after consent. We may also disclose information where required by law or where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. We do not sell personal information.

International processing

Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, we expect the provider to use an appropriate legal safeguard, such as an adequacy decision or approved contractual protections.

How long we keep information

• Comments and their moderation history may be retained while the article and discussion remain published.
• Contact enquiries are normally retained only while the enquiry is active and for a reasonable period afterwards where needed for continuity, records or a possible dispute.
• Subscriber information is retained while you remain subscribed. After an opt-out, a minimal suppression record may be kept so that we do not contact you again accidentally.
• Technical records are retained only for the periods required for hosting, security, troubleshooting and legal obligations.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to ask for access to your information, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or to object to processing. Where processing depends on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.
